In part One, we touched on a pair of major factors that often have retirees choosing the “Florida Ridge” over coastal Florida for their future home- The unique rolling topography and protection from coastal storms. These two factors alone make the Central Florida experience quite unique when compared to the most common perception of Florida as strictly a “sand and surf” haven. Of course, if sand and surf is what you truly crave, you can STILL have the best of both worlds- since Florida’s beautiful coasts (bordering the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Atlantic Ocean) are easily accessible from the central part of the state. And there you have Reason #3 many discerning choose the Florida Ridge to call home.
Our 4th reason is related to the third. Since over the decades so many snowbirds and permanent resident retirees have not been introduced to the beautiful interior of Florida, the coastal areas have become dramatically overcrowded by some measures. As population has grown, building lots have become more scarce and vertical concrete condominiums more common. Additionally, the pricey coastal areas are not customarily developed to serve only Active Adults (55+). Often they are available to everyone, including families of all description, singles of all ages and seniors as well. Conversely, the central part of the state including Lake County has an abundance of wide open spaces, which has allowed development to be more carefully crafted to accommodate the Active Adult Lifestyle. Master-planned communities in central Florida typically offer an array of social opportunity and activities both inside and outside the community. Many are close to terrific towns or small cities and often within easy reach of airports or larger metro areas.
